Drug Interactions With Oxycodone ER

There are a number of medications that can cause oxycodone ER drug interactions, including antidepressants, sleep aids, and benzodiazepine sedatives. Some of the results of these drug interactions include increased risk for developing serious side effects, such as difficulty breathing. It is important to tell your healthcare provider about all other medications you are taking before starting oxycodone ER.

Oxycodone ER Drug Interactions: An Overview

Oxycodone ER (OxyContin®) is a prescription pain medication that can potentially interact with a number of other medications, particularly other medications that cause sedation. Some of the medicines that may lead to drug interactions with oxycodone ER include (but are not limited to):
 
  • Alcoholic beverages (or other products that contain alcohol)
  • Alvimopan (Entereg®)
  • Antidepressants
  • Antihistamines (including many non-prescription cold, cough, allergy, motion sickness, and sleep medications)
  • Antipsychotic drugs, including (but not limited to):

 

 

  • Barbiturate medications, such as:

 

    • Amobarbital (Amytal®)
    • Butalbital (Fioricet®, Fiorinal®)
    • Pentobarbital (Nembutal®)
    • Phenobarbital (Luminal®)
    • Secobarbital (Seconal®)

 

  • Benzodiazepine sedatives, such as:

 

 

  • Muscle relaxants, such as:

 

 

  • Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), including:
