Side Effects of Oral Tranexamic Acid

Although most women have no problems with oral tranexamic acid, side effects may occur. In clinical trials, the most commonly reported side effect was a headache (this occurred in up to 50.4 percent of women taking the drug). Other common reactions included muscle pain, nasal symptoms (such as congestion), and back pain. Serious problems, though not as common, included vision and speech changes, among others.

An Introduction to Oral Tranexamic Acid Side Effects

Just like any medicine, oral tranexamic acid (Lysteda™) can cause side effects. However, not everyone who takes the medication will have problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in many cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider.

(This article covers many, but not all, of the possible side effects with oral tranexamic acid. Your healthcare provider can discuss a more complete list with you.)
