Omeprazole Dosing

When treating conditions of the esophagus, stomach, and intestines with omeprazole, dosing guidelines will vary depending on many factors, such as your age, the medical condition being treated, other medications you are taking, and other medical conditions you have. When given to children, the dose of omeprazole will also vary depending on weight. Omeprazole comes in the form of a capsule that is taken once or twice a day. In order for the medication to work properly, you must take it as prescribed.

Omeprazole Dosage Information: An Introduction

The dose of omeprazole (Prilosec®) that your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending on a number of factors, including:
 
  • Your age
  • The medical condition being treated
  • Other medications you may be taking
  • Other medical conditions you may have.
     
As is always the case, do not adjust your dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.
 

Prescription Omeprazole Dosing

Omeprazole Dosage for Helicobacter Pylori Infections
There are two different regimens for treating H. pylori infections. The triple therapy regimen consists of the following medications taken for 10 days (or for 28 days in people who currently have a duodenal ulcer):
 
The dual therapy regimen consists of the following medications taken for 14 days (or for 28 days for people who currently have a duodenal ulcer):
 
  • Omeprazole 40 mg once daily
  • Clarithromycin (Biaxin) 500 mg three times daily.
     
Omeprazole Dosing for Duodenal Ulcers
The recommended dosage of omeprazole for duodenal ulcer treatment is omeprazole 20 mg for four to eight weeks.
