Omeprazole (Prilosec®) is a medication often prescribed to treat conditions related to the esophagus, stomach, and intestines. It is approved to treat duodenal and stomach ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), H. pylori infections, and pathological hypersecretory conditions. The medication, which comes in capsule form and is available in three different strengths, is typically taken once or twice a day. While most people tolerate this medicine well, potential side effects include upper respiratory infections, dry mouth, and insomnia.
