Dosage of Olopatadine Ophthalmic Solution: An Introduction
The recommended dose of
olopatadine ophthalmic solution (
Patanol®,
Pataday™) varies, depending on the particular product. It does not vary, however, based on your age, weight, or the severity of your
allergy symptoms. As is always the case, do not adjust your dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.
Olopatadine Ophthalmic Solution Dose for Eye Allergies
The recommended olopatadine ophthalmic solution dosage for treating eye allergy symptoms in adults and children age three years and older is either one drop in each affected eye once daily (for Pataday) or one drop in each affected eye twice daily (for Patanol). With Patanol, the two daily doses should be taken about six to eight hours apart during the day.
General Information on Dosing With Olopatadine Ophthalmic Solution
Some considerations for people using olopatadine ophthalmic solution include the following:
- This medication comes in the form of an eyedrop. It is used once or twice a day, depending on the particular product.
- If you wear contact lenses, you must remove them to use the drops. In order to prevent the lens from absorbing some of the ingredients in the medication, make sure to wait at least 10 minutes after using olopatadine ophthalmic solution before reinserting the lens. Do not wear your contact lenses if your eye is still red.
- In order to prevent contamination of the drops, do not touch the tip of the dropper to any surface, including the surface of the eye.
- For the medication to work properly, it must be used as directed.
- If you are unsure about anything related to your olopatadine ophthalmic solution dosage, please talk with your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
