Nitroglycerin Anal Ointment
Nitroglycerin anal ointment is used to treat pain caused by chronic anal fissures. It is applied twice a day and can be used for up to three weeks. Headaches and dizziness are among the most common side effects. At this time, the medication comes in one strength and is not available in generic form.
Nitroglycerin anal ointment (Rectiv™) is a prescription ointment approved for the treatment of moderate-to-severe pain caused by chronic anal fissures. It is the first (and currently only) nitroglycerin ointment approved for this use in the United States.

Just like any medicine, nitroglycerin anal ointment may cause side effects. However, not everyone who uses the drug will experience problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well.
If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider. Serious reactions are less common.
The most common side effects of this medication include headache and dizziness.
