Nature-Throid Side Effects

While most people do not experience problems while taking Nature-Throid, side effects are possible. However, side effects usually occur when the dosage is too high. Some of the potentially dangerous side effects of Nature-Throid include difficult or painful breathing, high blood pressure, heart palpitations, and an increased appetite accompanied by weight loss.

An Introduction to Nature-Throid Side Effects

As with any medicine, side effects are possible with Nature-Throid™ (thyroid USP). However, not everyone who takes the drug will experience side effects. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well.

(This article covers many, but not all, of the possible side effects with Nature-Throid. Your healthcare provider can discuss a more complete list of Nature-Throid side effects with you.)

Possible Nature-Throid Side Effects

Side effects typically occur when the Nature-Throid dosage is too high. Too much Nature-Throid causes symptoms of an overactive thyroid (known medically as hyperthyroidism). These symptoms can be dangerous, and any of these symptoms should be reported to your healthcare provider, as they may signal that your Nature-Throid dosage needs to be decreased. These side effects may include:

  • Shakiness or muscle weakness
  • Feeling hot all the time and increased sweating
  • Fever
  • Hyperactivity, nervousness, anxiety, or irritability
  • Insomnia
  • Emotional changes
  • Hair loss
  • Flushing
  • Broken bones or signs of weakened bones
  • Heart palpitations
  • A rapid heart rate (tachycardia)
  • Heart failure, chest pain, or a heart attack
  • Difficult or painful breathing
  • An increased appetite, along with weight loss
  • Menstrual problems or fertility problems
  • High blood pressure (hypertension)
  • Diarrhea, vomiting, or abdominal cramps (stomach cramps)
  • Seizures.

As with any medication, Nature-Throid can also cause allergic reactions. In fact, it may have a higher risk for allergic reactions, since it contains ground-up pig thyroid glands. Seek medical attention immediately if you develop signs of an allergic reaction, including:

  • An unexplained rash
  • Hives
  • Itching
  • Wheezing or difficulty breathing
  • Unexplained swelling (especially of the lips, mouth, or throat).
