Naloxone Trade Names

Originally sold under the trade name Narcan®, naloxone hydrochloride is now only available in generic form. The brand-name form was originally made by Endo Pharmaceuticals, Inc,, but the company stopped making this product. The generic forms are still available and sold under the name naloxone hydrochloride.
 
The generic naloxone products are made by Hospira and International Medication Systems, Limited, and are available in the following strengths:
 
  • Naloxone 0.4 mg per mL injection
  • Naloxone 1 mg per mL injection.
 
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has tested these generic products and has determined that they are equivalent to the brand-name Narcan products.
