Naftifine Generic

Naftifine (Naftin®) is a prescription medicine used to treat athlete's foot, jock itch, and ringworm. It comes in the form of a cream or gel, and is available in two strengths. Although all of the patents for the drug have expired, there are no generic naftifine products available at this time.

There are exclusivity rights for the 2% cream, which are not set to expire until January 2015. These types of exclusivity rights sometimes, but not always, protect against generic competition.

For the 1% cream and gel, there are no current exclusivity rights protecting them from generic competition. It may be that there is not enough demand for this product to make it profitable for companies to make a generic version.
