Naftifine Dosage

To treat symptoms caused by jock itch, ringworm, or athlete's foot with naftifine, your healthcare provider will recommend either a lower-strength gel or cream that is applied once or twice daily for four weeks, or a higher-strength cream that is applied once daily for two weeks. Naftifine dosing guidelines call for applying a thin layer of the product on the affected areas of the skin.

An Introduction to Your Dosage of Naftifine

The dose of naftifine (Naftin®) your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending on the strength and form of the particular product used. As is always the case, do not adjust your dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.

Naftifine Dosing Guidelines

The dosage of naftifine is the same for all of the approved uses -- athlete's foot, ringworm, or jock itch. The lower-strength products (1%) are applied for four weeks, and the higher-strength product (2%) is applied for two weeks. The cream forms in either strength are applied once a day, and the gel is applied twice a day. Therefore, the standard dosage is as follows:
  • Naftifine 1% gel -- applied twice daily for four weeks
  • Naftifine 1% cream -- applied once daily for four weeks
  • Naftifine 2% cream -- applied once daily for two weeks.

General Information on Using Naftifine

Some considerations to keep in mind during treatment with naftifine include the following:
  • Only a thin layer of the medicine is needed. However, make sure to treat the entire affected area, including about a half an inch past the affected area to the healthy skin.
  • Wash your hands after applying naftifine.
  • For the medication to work properly, it must be used as prescribed.
  • If you are unsure about anything related to your dosage or naftifine dosing in general, please talk to your healthcare provider or pharmacist.
