What If I Miss a Dose of Mycophenolate Mofetil?

If you forget a dose, take it as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for the next dose. In this case, simply skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not take a double dose.

How Does It Work?

Mycophenolate mofetil works by blocking the action of an enzyme in the body known as inosine monophosphate dehydrogenase (IMPDH). This enzyme is needed for T- and B-lymphocytes (cells that are part of the immune system) to multiply.

Transplant rejection occurs when the immune system, which is responsible for fighting infections, identifies the transplanted organ as a foreign material and tries to get rid of it. By preventing the production of more T- and B-lymphocytes, mycophenolate mofetil makes the immune system less active, which can help prevent transplant rejection.
