Muromonab Mechanism of Action

Available by prescription only, muromonab-CD3 (Orthoclone OKT®3) is a medicine used to treat organ rejection in people who have a heart, liver, or kidney transplant.
 A transplant rejection occurs when the immune system recognizes a transplanted organ as foreign and attacks it.
 
Muromonab-CD3 works by attaching to certain types of white blood cells called T-cells. By attaching to these white blood cells, muromonab-CD3 blocks the action of T-cells to function properly. This suppresses the immune system, helping to stop the T-cells from attacking the newly transplanted organ.
