Muromonab-CD3 Side Effects

Most people who receive muromonab-CD3 are likely to develop some type of reaction with this drug. Clinical studies have shown that nausea, diarrhea, and headaches are some of the most commonly reported reactions with muromonab-CD3. Side effects can also be quite significant, and problems like fever, tremors, and a severe headache should be reported to a healthcare provider right away.

An Introduction to Side Effects of Muromonab-CD3

Just like any medicine, muromonab-CD3 (Orthoclone OKT®3) can cause side effects. As with many other immunosuppressant medicines, the side effects can be significant. Although not everyone who receives this medicine will have problems, most people will experience some type of side effect during treatment.

Serious Muromonab-CD3 Side Effects

Some side effects of muromonab-CD3 are potentially serious and should be reported immediately to your healthcare provider. These include but are not limited to:
  • Signs of an infection, such as:
    • Fever
    • Chills
    • Aches and pains
    • Coughing
  • Swollen glands (lymph nodes) in the neck, armpits, or groin
  • Any skin changes, such as:
    • Discoloration
    • Sores
    • Changes in the color or size of moles
  • Sores or white spots in the mouth or on the lips
  • Difficulty urinating or a change in the amount of urine
  • Wheezing, shortness of breath, or fast or irregular breathing
  • An abnormal, slow, rapid, or forcefully beating heart
  • Seizures
  • Pale skin, shortness of breath, or extreme tiredness or fatigue
  • Abnormal bruising or bleeding
  • Black, tarry or bloody stools
  • Chest pain (angina) or tightness
  • Swelling of the arms, hands, legs, ankles, feet, or other body parts
  • Mood or behavior changes, including anxiety, depression, or agitation
  • Stiff neck
  • Severe headache
  • Unusual sensitivity of the eyes to the light
  • Yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes (jaundice)
  • Confusion or difficulty concentrating
  • Tremors, shaking, or abnormal movements
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Severe diarrhea
  • Problems seeing or hearing
  • Signs of an allergic reaction, such as:
    • Hives
    • Rash
    • Itching
    • Unexplained swelling of the mouth or throat
    • Wheezing
    • Difficulty breathing or swallowing.
