Cancer and Mitomycin

Available by prescription only, mitomycin (Mutamycin®) is a chemotherapy medication that is reserved for use in adults who have stomach or pancreatic cancer. It comes in the form of an injection that is given into a vein (an intravenous, or IV, infusion) once every six to eight weeks.
Specifically, mitomycin is approved for use in people who have not responded adequately to other treatment. Although it is not a cure for stomach or pancreatic cancer, mitomycin can help reduce symptoms or slow down the progression of the disease after other treatments have failed.
Mitomycin works by interfering with cell division, which helps prevent cancer cells from growing and multiplying.
