Minoxidil? Monoxidil is a common misspelling of minoxidil.
Available as an over-the-counter (OTC) medication, minoxidil (Rogaine®) is used for the treatment of male and female pattern baldness. Although it is not known exactly how this medication works, it is thought that minoxidil helps stimulate resting hair follicles to enter into an active growth phase and, therefore, grow hair. Minoxidil is approved for use in women, but it is recommended that women use the 2% formulation, as the higher strength may cause unwanted facial hair. Potential side effects may include a dry, flaky, and itchy scalp.
