Minoxidil 5%

Men and women who have androgenetic alopecia (commonly known as male and female pattern hair loss) may find that minoxidil (Rogaine®) is an effective hair-growth product. This medication is available without a prescription and is only approved for use in adults age 18 and older.
If you are looking for the highest strength of minoxidil, you will find that you have a couple of options. Although there is also a 2% solution, the maximum minoxidil strength is 5%, which is available as a foam or a liquid solution. Only men should use the 5% strength, as this strength increases the risk of stimulating hair growth on the face (typically an unwanted side effect for women).
Regardless of the strength or form you choose, minoxidil should be applied directly on the scalp twice daily, once in the morning and again in the evening. It is important to note that minoxidil is not a cure for baldness.
