Minoxidil (Rogaine®) is a nonprescription drug used for treating male and female pattern baldness in people with hair loss on the top and front of the head. It comes in the form of a liquid solution and a foam. The medication is applied to the scalp twice daily, and it may take at least four months before any results are seen. Although most people tolerate the medicine well, side effects are possible and may include unwanted facial hair or a dry, itchy, flaky scalp.
