Precautions and Warnings With Microgestin

Before starting the birth control pill, it's a good idea to review the precautions and warnings with Microgestin. For example, you should be aware that the drug may have an effect on blood pressure and may also increase your risk of blood clots. Precautions and warnings with Microgestin also apply to women who have depression, heart disease, and diabetes.

 

Microgestin: What Should I Tell My Healthcare Provider?

You should talk with your healthcare provider before taking Microgestin® (norethindrone/ethinyl estradiol) if you have:
 
Also, let your healthcare provider know if you are:
 
  • Over 35 years old
  • A smoker
  • Pregnant or thinking of becoming pregnant
  • Breastfeeding.
     
You should also be sure to tell your healthcare provider about all other medicines you are taking, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
 
(Microgestin is equivalent to Loestrin® and Junel™ birth control pills. The information in this article also applies to both of these medications.)
