If you have certain conditions related to heart disease, a healthcare provider may prescribe Mevacor® (lovastatin). This medication is a type of statin that works by blocking a particular enzyme that controls the rate of cholesterol production in the body. As a result, Mevacor can help to prevent heart disease, as well as treat high cholesterol. Before your healthcare provider prescribes this drug, he or she will consider several factors, including your age, the medical condition being treated, other medical conditions you have, and other medications you are taking (including vitamins and supplements).
