Mevacor Precautions and Warnings

It is important to understand the drug warnings before beginning treatment with Mevacor. Precautions and warnings for this drug relate to the use of alcohol and other drugs while taking Mevacor, as well as the threat of serious muscle problems and other complications that can occur. Certain people should not take Mevacor, such as women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, people who have active liver disease, and those who are allergic to any component of the medicine.

 

Mevacor: What Should I Tell My Healthcare Provider?

Prior to taking Mevacor® (lovastatin), you should tell your healthcare provider if you have:
 
Let your healthcare provider know if you:
 
  • Are pregnant or thinking about becoming pregnant
  • Are breastfeeding
  • Will be undergoing a procedure or surgery
  • Drink alcohol frequently.
     
Also, tell your healthcare provider about all other medicines you may be taking, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
 
Finally, make sure to contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any muscle pain, weakness, or tenderness, especially if you also have body aches or a fever.
