Mevacor® (lovastatin) is a prescription medicine approved to treat high cholesterol. This prescription medication can also be used to prevent heart disease and slow the progression of atherosclerosis in people with heart disease. It comes in tablet form, and is typically taken with the evening meal. Some of the common side effects seen with this drug include gas, headaches, and diarrhea.
 
Although Mevacor is tolerated well by most people, it is not suitable for everyone. Before using this medication, make sure to talk to your healthcare provider about any other health conditions you have, as well as any other medications you are taking (including vitamins and supplements).
