Metronidazole Topical Cream

Available by prescription only, metronidazole cream (MetroCream®) is a topical product that is applied on the skin twice daily treat rosacea. This medicated skin cream is available in one strength (0.75%) and one form (45-gram tubes). This same strength and form is also available in a generic version.
 
While most people tolerate this medicine well, side effects are possible and may include skin irritation, burning, and redness. Some people who have certain medical conditions, such as low blood cell counts, or who are taking certain medications may not be able to use this product.
 
It is not exactly clear how metronidazole cream works, but the active ingredient is a type of antibiotic. The drug may also have some anti-inflammatory and immune-suppressing properties.
