Streptozocin is prescribed to help prevent cancer cells from growing and multiplying in people who have a certain type of pancreatic cancer. This drug is approved to treat pancreatic islet cell cancer in people who are experiencing symptoms or when the disease has spread to other areas of the body. It is given as a fast or slow injection by a healthcare provider in a healthcare setting.
What Is Streptozocin?Streptozocin (Zanosar®) is a prescription chemotherapy medicine. It is approved to treat a certain type of cancer of the pancreas known as islet cell cancer. Streptozocin is reserved for use in people who are having symptoms or who have cancer that has spread to other areas of the body (metastasized) and is continuing to progress.
Are There Side Effects?Just like any chemotherapy medicine, streptozocin can cause side effects, some of which can be significant and potentially serious. In fact, most people will experience some type of adverse reaction during treatment. Talk with your healthcare provider about ways to prevent or lessen reactions to this drug.
