More Detail on Drug Interactions With RuxolitinibThe following sections explain in detail the potentially negative reactions that can occur when ruxolitinib is combined with any of the drugs listed above.
Taking ruxolitinib with medications that decrease the activity of the immune system may increase your risk for side effects, such as infections and anemia. Talk to your healthcare provider before taking ruxolitinib with an immunosuppressant.
Combining ruxolitinib with clozapine may increase your risk for a dangerously low white blood cell count. You should not take these medicines together without your healthcare provider's approval.
CYP 3A4 Inducer Medications
The liver breaks down ruxolitinib using enzymes known as CYP 3A4 enzymes. Medications known as CYP 3A4 inducers can increase the activity of these enzymes. Combining ruxolitinib with one of these CYP 3A4 inducers may decrease the level of ruxolitinib in your bloodstream, potentially making it less effective. Your healthcare provider will monitor you closely if you take ruxolitinib with a CYP 3A4 inducer, and increase your ruxolitinib dose if needed.
CYP 3A4 Inhibitor Medications
The liver breaks down ruxolitinib using enzymes known as CYP 3A4 enzymes. Medications known as CYP 3A4 inhibitors can decrease the activity of these enzymes. Combining ruxolitinib with one of these CYP 3A4 inhibitors may increase the level of ruxolitinib in your bloodstream, potentially increasing your risk for side effects. Your healthcare provider may choose to give you a lower ruxolitinib dose if you take it with a CYP 3A4 inhibitor.
Taking echinacea with ruxolitinib can make ruxolitinib less effective. Do not take echinacea during ruxolitinib treatment, unless your healthcare provider tells you otherwise.
