Dosing Information

The dose of PTU your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending on a number of factors, including:
  • How you respond to this medication
  • The severity of your condition
  • Your age
  • Any other medical conditions you may have.
As is always the case, do not adjust your dose unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.

What If I Take an Overdose of PTU?

An overdose with this medication may be dangerous. If you happen to take too much PTU, seek medical attention right away.

What Should I Do If I Miss a Dose?

If you forget to take a dose of PTU, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, simply skip the one you missed and continue with your regular schedule. Do not take a double dose.

Who Makes PTU?

Generic versions of this medication are made by West-Ward Pharmaceutical Corp., and Actavis. There are no brand-name PTU products available in the United States.
