Drugs Home > Nicorette Lozenge Alternatives

If you are finding it difficult to stop smoking with the Nicorette Lozenge (nicotine lozenge), alternatives are available. For example, you may benefit from other nicotine replacement medications or certain prescription medications. There are also a variety of nonmedication treatment options, such as counseling, which can help people stop smoking and may also be beneficial when used in combination with a smoking-cessation medicine.

An Overview of Nicorette Lozenge Alternatives

The Nicorette® Lozenge (nicotine lozenge) is a nonprescription nicotine replacement medication used to help people stop smoking (this is known as smoking cessation). It does this by helping to reduce the uncomfortable symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

When you are ready to quit smoking, there are a variety of treatments that may help you be successful. The Nicorette Lozenge is just one of them. Alternatives to Nicorette Lozenges include:
  • Other nicotine replacement products
  • Certain prescription medication
  • Nonmedication treatment.
Other Nicotine Replacement Products
Several nicotine replacement products are available in addition to the Nicorette Lozenge. Some, like the Nicorette Lozenge, are available over-the-counter (OTC), while others require a prescription. Alternate nicotine replacement products include:
Nicotine replacement products replace the nicotine from cigarettes to help reduce the physical withdrawal symptoms and nicotine cravings that occur when people stop smoking. These medications are only used for a limited amount of time, as you wean your body off nicotine.
