Drugs Home > Metronidazole Cream Dosage

Instructions for how to use metronidazole cream are the same for everyone, regardless of the severity of your rosacea. Dosing guidelines for metronidazole cream call for applying it on the affected areas of the skin twice daily. Be sure to avoid getting this cream too close to your eyes, as it can irritate them.

An Introduction to Your Metronidazole Cream Dosage

There is only one standard dose of metronidazole cream (MetroCream®), regardless of the severity of your rosacea. Therefore, if the product is not working for you, a different rosacea medication might be more appropriate. As is always the case, do not adjust your dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.

Dosing Guidelines for Metronidazole Cream

The standard instructions for metronidazole cream 0.75% are to apply it twice daily to the entire area after cleansing the skin. Choose a mild cleanser to help minimize rosacea symptoms. For maximum effectiveness, do not "spot treat" and do not just apply metronidazole cream during flares. Treat the entire area, every day. However, people who have occasional flares may need to only treat the area during the flares.
You may apply cosmetics after applying metronidazole cream.

General Information on Using Metronidazole Cream

Some considerations to keep in mind during treatment with metronidazole cream include the following:
  • Do not apply the cream too close to the eyes, as it can be irritating to the eyes.
  • Let your healthcare provider know if your skin seems to be getting worse, as some people can have skin reactions to metronidazole cream.
  • For the medication to work properly, it must be used as prescribed.
  • If you are unsure about anything related to your metronidazole cream dosage, please talk with your healthcare provider or pharmacist.
