Drugs Home > Fluocinolone Shampoo Side Effects
Although most people tolerate the medicine well, it's possible to experience side effects with fluocinolone shampoo. This steroid is an older medication, so only vague information is available. Based on this information, adverse reactions to the drug may include irritation, burning, and other problems. Notify your healthcare provider immediately if you notice problems such as hallucinations, ruptured tendons, or hives.
As with any medicine, side effects are possible with fluocinolone shampoo (Capex®). However, not everyone who uses the medication will experience problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider.
(This article covers many, but not all, of the possible side effects with fluocinolone shampoo. Your healthcare provider can discuss a more complete list with you.)
Side Effects to ReportSome side effects of steroids such as fluocinolone shampoo are potentially serious and should be reported immediately to your healthcare provider. These include but are not limited to:
- High blood pressure (hypertension)
- High blood sugar (hyperglycemia) or diabetes
- Ruptured tendons
- Psychotic reactions, such as hallucinations or extreme aggression
- Severe fluid retention
- Signs of an allergic reaction, such as:
- Unexplained rash
- Unexplained swelling.
In general, these serious reactions are extremely unlikely to occur when fluocinolone shampoo is used as directed for a short period (a few weeks). Applying too much, over too large an area, and for too long may increase the risk of serious steroidal side effects.
