Drugs Home > Levocetirizine Dihydrochloride

Levocetirizine dihydrochloride (Xyzal®) is approved to treat the following conditions:
  • Allergies, including seasonal allergies and allergies that occur all year long (known as perennial allergies)
  • Chronic hives due to unknown causes (known medically as chronic idiopathic urticaria).
This prescription drug is a type of antihistamine. By blocking histamine from binding to receptors, levocetirizine can help alleviate itching due to hives and relieve common allergy symptoms, such as itchy nose and eyes, sneezing, and runny nose.
The medication comes in tablet and liquid form, and is typically taken once a day in the evening (with or without food). In clinical trials, some of the most commonly reported side effects included fatigue, dry mouth, and drowsiness.
