Desloratadine (Clarinex®) is a prescription medication that has been licensed for several uses, including:
  • Relief of outdoor seasonal allergy symptoms (hay fever)
  • Relief of allergy symptoms caused by indoor allergens, such as dust mites or fungi
  • Treatment of chronic (long-term) hives and itching.
This antihistamine is usually taken once a day. It comes in several forms, including a tablet, orally disintegrating tablet, and syrup. When used for hay fever or chronic hives, it is approved for use in adults and children as young as six months of age. For indoor allergy symptoms, it is approved for adults and children over the age of two years.
Prior to taking desloratadine, tell your healthcare provider if you have kidney disease, phenylketonuria, or any other medical conditions.
