An Introduction to Your Desonide Dosage

The dosage of desonide (Desonate^®, DesOwen^®, Verdeso^®) your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending mostly on the particular product you are using. As is always the case, do not adjust your dose unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.

 

Dosing for Desonide Cream, Ointment, and Lotion

With desonide cream, lotion, or ointment (DesOwen products), the standard starting dose for treating itching or inflammation due to a wide variety of skin conditions (such as psoriasis, eczema, or atopic dermatitis) in adults is a thin layer applied to the affected area(s) two to three times a day. Gently wash your hands after applying desonide, unless you are treating your hands.

 

If no improvement is seen within two weeks, talk with your healthcare provider about a different treatment approach.

 

Dosing for Desonide Foam

With desonide foam (Verdeso), the standard starting dosage for treating atopic dermatitis in people age three months and older is a small amount applied twice daily. Gently rub the foam into the skin, being careful not to damage the irritated skin. Wash your hands after applying the foam, unless you are treating your hands.

 

In general, you should stop using Verdeso once the atopic dermatitis is under control. If no improvement is seen within four weeks, your healthcare provider may need to reconsider your diagnosis. Do not use Verdeso for more than four weeks at a time. Although it is effective, it cannot be used on a long-term basis, due to the increased risk of side effects.
