Desonide Lotion

Desonide lotion is licensed to treat eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, and various other skin conditions. This steroid works by reducing inflammation and suppressing an overactive immune system. The medication, which is available by prescription only, is typically applied on the affected areas of the skin two to three times daily. Most people tolerate the drug well, but side effects can include skin irritation, burning, and stinging.

Desonide lotion (DesOwen®) is a prescription skin medication that comes in the form of a lotion. It belongs to a group of medications known as topical steroids and is used to treat inflammation and itching due to a wide variety of skin conditions, such as eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, and allergic reactions.

Are There Side Effects?

Just like any medicine, desonide lotion may cause side effects. However, not everyone who uses the drug will experience problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well.
 
If reactions do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider. Serious side effects are less common.
 
Common side effects of desonide lotion include but are not limited to:
 
  • Stinging and burning
  • Irritation
  • Contact dermatitis (an itchy red rash caused by direct contact with an irritating substance).
