Drugs Home > Claforan for UTI
Belonging to a group of drugs called cephalosporin antibiotics, Claforan® (cefotaxime) is injected into a vein or a muscle to help treat certain bacterial infections. Some of the specific infections Claforan can treat include:
- Urinary tract infections (UTIs, such as a bladder infection or kidney infection)
- Bone and joint infections.
Claforan works by stopping bacteria from making cell walls, which eventually causes the bacteria to die. However, not all bacteria will respond to this medication. It is approved for use in adults and children as young as newborns.
