People with allergies may benefit from loratadine (Claritin®). The medication is approved for treating common allergy symptoms (such as sneezing and runny nose), as well as itching caused by hives. It works by blocking the effects of histamine, which is responsible for many of the symptoms of allergies and the formation of hives. This antihistamine product is available over the counter and comes in several forms, including tablets, orally disintegrating tablets, chewable tablets, liquid-filled capsules, and syrup.
