Loratadine Syrup

Loratadine (Claritin®) is an over-the-counter medication commonly used for treating allergies. By blocking the effects of histamine, it can help relieve allergy symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, and itchy or watery eyes. The drug is also approved to treat itching due to hives.

There are several different forms of loratadine: syrup, tablets, liquid-filled capsules, chewable tablets, and orally disintegrating tablets. The medicine is typically taken once or twice a day, depending on the particular product. Loratadine syrup and chewable tablets are approved for use in children as young as two years old.

Even though most people tolerate this antihistamine product well, side effects are possible. Some of the most commonly reported side effects of this drug include dry mouth, drowsiness, headaches, and fatigue.
