Levoxyl 50 mcg

Levoxyl® (levothyroxine sodium) is a medication often prescribed for treating an underactive thyroid. It can also be used to treat a wide variety of other thyroid problems, including certain types of thyroid cancers.

The medicine comes in tablet form and is available in numerous strengths, including:

  • 25 mcg (orange)
  • 50 mcg (white)
  • 75 mcg (purple)
  • 88 mcg (olive)
  • 100 mcg (yellow)
  • 112 mcg (rose)
  • 125 mcg (brown)
  • 137 mcg (dark blue)
  • 150 mcg (blue)
  • 175 mcg (turquoise)
  • 200 mcg (pink)
  • 300 mcg (green).

Levoxyl is not a "one-size-fits-all" medication because people have varying degrees of hypothyroidism and varying responses to drugs. Doses must be individualized for each person.

Some healthcare providers will recommend starting with a low dosage (such as 25 mcg or 50 mcg of Levoxyl), while others may recommend a high dosage. You will need frequent blood tests to monitor your thyroid function, and the results of these tests will guide your healthcare provider to make any necessary dosing adjustments.
