Lansoprazole Side Effects
For people taking lansoprazole, side effects may include nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and constipation. There are many other potential side effects associated with lansoprazole; however, they tend to be rare, meaning they occur in less than 1 percent of people. Side effects that are rarely seen with lansoprazole include such things as gout, allergic reactions, weight gain, and high blood pressure.
Lansoprazole Side Effects: An Introduction
There are a number of possible side effects associated with
lansoprazole (marketed under the brand name
Prevacid®). However, not everyone who takes lansoprazole will experience side effects. In fact, most people tolerate it well. When side effects do occur, in most cases they are minor, meaning they require no treatment or are easily treated by you or your healthcare provider.

Common Side Effects of Lansoprazole
Lansoprazole has been studied extensively in clinical trials, with over 10,000 people worldwide having been evaluated. In these studies, side effects are always documented. Based on these studies, the most common side effects of lansoprazole were:
- Abdominal pain (2.1 percent of people)
- Constipation (1 percent of people)
- Diarrhea (3.8 percent of people)
- Nausea (1.3 percent of people).
