Lansoprazole Drug Interactions

More Details on Drug Interactions With Lansoprazole

The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur when any of the drugs mentioned above are combined with lansoprazole.
Lansoprazole may decrease the absorption of ampicillin into the body, perhaps making it less effective. Check with your healthcare provider before taking these medications together.
Lansoprazole may decrease the absorption of atazanavir into the body, making it less effective. For this reason, you should not take lansoprazole if you are taking atazanavir.
Clopidogrel (Plavix)
Some research suggests that proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), like lansoprazole, may decrease the effectiveness of clopidogrel. This could potentially be a serious drug interaction. However, experts are still in disagreement about how significant this interaction really is and whether it affects all PPIs. Do not combine these medications without discussing the matter with your healthcare provider first.
Lansoprazole may decrease the level of delavirdine in the blood. In general, this combination should be avoided.
Lansoprazole may decrease the absorption of digoxin into the body. Your healthcare provider may decide to monitor your digoxin levels (using a simple blood test), especially when you start or stop taking lansoprazole. Lansoprazole may cause low blood magnesium levels, which can lead to serious arrhythmias (irregular heart rhythms), especially in people taking digoxin. Your healthcare provider may decide to monitor your magnesium levels periodically if you are taking digoxin and lansoprazole.
