Ketoconazole Foam Side Effects

Common Side Effects

Ketoconazole foam has been studied extensively in clinical trials. In these studies, ketoconazole foam was compared to a similar product that did not contain any active ingredients (a placebo). As a result, it was possible to see what side effects occurred, how often they appeared, and how they compared to the placebo.
In clinical trials, the most common side effects of ketoconazole foam included:
  • Burning sensations at the application site -- in up to 10 percent of people
  • Other application site skin reactions (not specified) -- up to 6 percent.
These side effects also occurred in a similar percentage of people using the placebo foam. This might indicate that the foam itself (the formulation of the inactive ingredients), rather than the active ingredients, is causing the side effects. It might also indicate that these "side effects" might simply be symptoms of the underlying condition itself.

Final Thoughts

You may experience some or none of the ketoconazole foam side effects listed in this article. Unfortunately, there is no way for your healthcare provider to know beforehand if you will have problems with a medicine that you have never tried.
Therefore, make sure to let your healthcare provider know if you develop any side effects while using ketoconazole foam or if something "just does not seem right." While it may not be related to the medication, your healthcare provider will be able to diagnose and treat the problem.
