Ketalar Side Effects

Although there is only vague information available about the possible side effects of Ketalar, some of the common problems with this anesthetic may include a rapid heartbeat, blurred vision, and mood changes. In most cases, reactions to this drug tend to be mild. However, contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience difficulty breathing, an abnormal heart rhythm, or extreme pain.

An Introduction to Ketalar Side Effects

Just like any medicine, Ketalar® (ketamine hydrochloride) can cause side effects. However, not everyone who receives the medication will have problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider.

(This article covers many, but not all, of the possible side effects with Ketalar. Your healthcare provider can discuss a more complete list with you.)

Common Side Effects of Ketalar

For many medications, the prescribing information carefully explains the exact percentage of side effects that were seen in clinical trials. However, the prescribing information for almost all older medications, including Ketalar, includes only vague information on potential side effects, with no percentages provided. Therefore, it can be difficult to know exactly how frequently the side effects occur.

Some of the more common Ketalar side effects may include but are not limited to:

    • A dream-like state
    • Hallucinations (seeing or hearing things that aren't real)
    • Feeling outside of one's body
    • Confusion
    • Excitement

  • Nightmares
  • Involuntary eye movements
  • Decreased appetite
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • A temporary rash
  • Pain or redness at the injection site.
