When and How to Receive Ibritumomab

Some general considerations to keep in mind during treatment with ibritumomab include the following:
  • This medication comes as a liquid that is given as an injection into a vein (an intravenous, or IV, injection) over a 10-minute period.
  • Ibritumomab is part of a treatment regimen that includes rituximab. It is normally given as a single dose within four hours after receiving a second dose of rituximab.
  • The injection will be given by a healthcare provider in a healthcare setting, such as a hospital or clinic.
  • For the medication to work properly, it must be used as prescribed. It is important to keep your appointment to receive your ibritumomab dose.

Storage Information

Your healthcare provider will store ibritumomab. It should be stored under refrigeration, not frozen. The medication must be used within eight hours after preparation of the dose.

Is There a Generic Version?

This medication is not available in generic form (see Generic Zevalin).

Available Strengths

Ibritumomab is available in one strength: Ibritumomab 3.2 mg per 2 mL. It must be linked with a radioactive substance known as Yttrium-90 before use.
