Gemfibrozil Tablets

Gemfibrozil (Lopid®) is a medication used to reduce levels of triglyceride (a fat-like substance) and cholesterol in the body. This prescription medication is designed to be used in combination with lifestyle changes, such as diet and exercise. By lowering triglycerides and cholesterol, gemfibrozil tablets help prevent conditions such as heart disease, angina (chest pain), strokes, and heart attacks.

Although most people tolerate this medication well, side effects are possible. Some of the common side effects of gemfibrozil tablets include nausea, diarrhea, and fatigue. This medication is not suitable for everyone, so talk to your healthcare provider about any other medical conditions you may have or any other medications you are taking (including vitamins and herbal supplements) before starting treatment with gemfibrozil.

The medication comes tablet form and is typically taken two times a day. The dosage your healthcare provider recommends will vary, based on factors such as the medical condition being treated, other medications you are currently taking, and other medical conditions you may have. Gemfibrozil is available in one strength -- gemfibrozil 600 mg tablets.
