Drug Interactions With Gemfibrozil

Drug Interactins Gemfibrozil: An Introduction

Gemfibrozil (Lopid®) has the potential to interact with a number of other medications. Some of these gemfibrozil drug interactions include:

  • Warfarin (Coumadin®, Jantoven®)

  • HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors (statins), including:
Warfarin (Coumadin, Jantoven)
Gemfibrozil can increase the anticoagulant (anti-clotting) effect of warfarin. This means that you are at an increased risk of bleeding if you are taking both gemfibrozil and warfarin. Your healthcare provider may choose to monitor your INR and prothrombin time more frequently and make any necessary dosing adjustments. INR and prothrombin time are tests used to measure how well your blood is clotting.
