Side Effects of Fluvastatin

Common Side Effects of Fluvastatin

Fluvastatin has been studied extensively in clinical trials, with thousands of people having been evaluated. In these studies, side effects are always documented and compared to side effects that occur in a similar group of people taking a placebo (a "sugar pill" with no active ingredients). This way, it is possible to see what side effects occur, how often they appear, and how they compare to the group taking the placebo.

Based on these studies, the most common fluvastatin side effects include:

  • Headache -- in up to 8.9 percent of people
  • Indigestion or heartburn -- up to 7.9 percent
  • Muscle pain, known medically as myalgia -- up to 5 percent (see Lescol and Muscle Pain)
  • Diarrhea -- up to 4.9 percent
  • Abdominal pain (stomach pain) -- up to 4.9 percent
  • Nausea -- up to 3.2 percent.

Other common side effects (occurring in 2 to 3 percent of people) included:

Final Thoughts

You may experience some or none of these side effects of fluvastatin listed in this article. Unfortunately, there is no way for your healthcare provider to know beforehand whether you will have side effects from a medicine that you have never tried. Therefore, make sure to let your healthcare provider know if you develop any while taking fluvastatin, or if something "just does not seem right." While it may not be a side effect, your healthcare provider will be able to diagnose and treat the problem.
