Niacin (Nicotinic Acid, Niacor, Nicolar)
Taking
fluvastatin with
niacin may increase your risk of dangerous side effects, including myopathy and rhabdomyolysis
(see Lescol and Muscle Pain). Talk to your healthcare provider before taking these medications together.
Omeprazole (Prilosec)
Taking
omeprazole with fluvastatin may cause the levels of fluvastatin in the blood to be significantly higher than intended. When using these medicines together, your healthcare provider may choose to monitor you more closely and make necessary dosing adjustments.
Phenytoin (Dilantin, Phenytek)
Taking
phenytoin and fluvastatin together can increase the level of both medications in your blood, increasing your risk of side effects. Your healthcare provider may need to monitor you more closely and adjust your dosages as necessary.
Ranitidine (Zantac)
Taking
ranitidine with fluvastatin may cause the levels of fluvastatin in the blood to be significantly higher than intended. When taking these medicines together, your healthcare provider may choose to monitor you more closely and make necessary dosing adjustments.
Rifampin (Rifadin)
Rifampin can decrease the level of fluvastatin in your blood, perhaps making it less effective. Your healthcare provider may need to adjust your dose of fluvastatin.
Spironolactone (Aldactone, Aldactazide)
Theoretically, fluvastatin may decrease the level of hormones in the body. Since
spironolactone can also lower hormone levels, taking these medications together may increase your risk of problems due to low hormones. Talk to your healthcare provider before combining ketoconazole with fluvastatin.
