The recommended starting dosage of fluvastatin for children (ages 10 to 16) with high cholesterol is fluvastatin 20 mg once a day. If your child does not reach his or her cholesterol goal on the starting fluvastatin dose, your healthcare provider may choose to increase the dose. The fluvastatin dosage can also be decreased if side effects of fluvastatin occur. The maximum daily fluvastatin dosage for children is fluvastatin 80 mg.

Your fluvastatin medication should be taken with the evening meal or right before bedtime. If you are taking two doses per day, the other dose can be taken in the morning.
To maintain even levels of fluvastatin in your body, make sure to take fluvastatin at the same time each day.
Fluvastatin can be taken with or without food.
Fluvastatin comes in a capsule. Fluvastatin extended-release comes in a tablet. Do not break, chew, crush, or open the fluvastatin capsules or tablets.
For fluvastatin to work properly, you have to take it as prescribed. Fluvastatin will not work if you stop taking it.
