What Is Flurandrenolide Tape Used For?
If you have eczema or any other skin condition that is responsive to steroids, your healthcare provider may recommend the use of flurandrenolide tape. This drug works by reducing inflammation and suppressing an overactive immune system. It is approved for use in adults only, though it may sometimes be used off-label in children.
Flurandrenolide tape (Cordran® Tape ) is a prescription skin medication used to treat inflammation and itching due to a wide variety of conditions. It is a topical steroid that comes in the form of a tape. For people who do not prefer the tape, lotion and cream forms are also available. Flurandrenolide tape provides a steroid with a built-in barrier to increase the drug's potency, hold in moisture, and protect the skin.
Some of the conditions that flurandrenolide tape is useful for treating include but are not limited to:
Specifically, flurandrenolide tape is approved to treat any skin condition that is responsive to corticosteroids. This is a very broad indication. Given the nature of the tape, it is most suitable for treating small, dry, scaly areas of the skin.
Although using a steroid with a barrier improves effectiveness, the absorption (and thus the risk of serious side effects) also increases. As with other steroids, long-term, continuous use should be avoided if possible, due to the risk of serious flurandrenolide tape side effects.
Flurandrenolide tape is part of a group of medications known as glucocorticoids. Glucocorticoids are a type of corticosteroid, or "steroid" for short. Although glucocorticoids have numerous effects in the body, they are used mostly for their anti-inflammatory or immune-suppressing properties. Flurandrenolide tape works for most conditions by decreasing inflammation or suppressing an overactive immune system.
