Drug Interactions With Fluconazole

A number of medicines may cause drug interactions with fluconazole, including warfarin, rifabutin, cisapride, and phenytoin. In general, people should also avoid taking fluconazole with pimozide, quinine, tetrabenazine. These negative reactions could increase your risk for developing a dangerous irregular heart rhythm or other serious side effects. In some cases, your healthcare provider may adjust the dosages of your medications.

An Overview of Fluconazole Interactions

Fluconazole (Diflucan®) can potentially interact with several other medications. Some of the medicines that may lead to drug interactions with fluconazole include:
 
  • Certain benzodiazepines, such as:
 
 
  • Cisapride (Propulsid®)
  • Conivaptan (Vaprisol®)
  • Cyclosporine (Gengraf®, Neoral®, Sandimmune®)
  • Dofetilide (Tikosyn®)
  • Nilotinib (Tasigna®)
  • Phenytoin (Dilantin®, Phenytek®)
  • Pimozide (Orap®)
  • Quinidine
  • Quinine
  • Ranolazine (Ranexa®)
  • Rifabutin (Mycobutin®)
  • Rifampin (Rifadin®)
  • Sulfonylureas, such as:
