If you have seasonal
allergies, your healthcare provider may prescribe fexofenadine (
Allegra®) to help relieve your
allergy symptoms. The medication is also approved for the treatment of chronic hives and itching.
There are several different forms of fexofenadine: tablets, orally disintegrating tablets, and oral suspension (liquid). The drug is typically taken once or twice a day. Although you can take fexofenadine tablets and oral suspension with or without food, the orally disintegrating tablets should be taken on an empty stomach.
Although most people have no problems with this medication, side effects are possible. The most common side effects that have been reported in both adults and children include coughing,
back pain, and respiratory tract infections.
