Fexofenadine (
Allegra®) is a medication commonly used for the treatment of seasonal
allergies and chronic itching and hives. It is available by prescription and comes in several different forms and strengths, including tablets, orally disintegrating tablets, and oral suspension (liquid).
By blocking the effects of a certain chemical called histamine, this medicine has been shown to help relieve
allergy symptoms such as sneezing, itchy or watery eyes, runny nose, and nasal or throat itching.
In order to help ensure the safe use of fexofenadine, drug information should be discussed with your healthcare provider before treatment begins. Make sure to tell your healthcare provider if you are pregnant or thinking of becoming pregnant, have kidney disease, or are currently breastfeeding. Some of the side effects that you should look out for while using this drug include
headache, middle
ear infection, coughing, and
back pain.
